While he isn't quite crawling like a pro, he is now able to get to places he wants pretty quickly. I think by next week he will be crawling around for real and of course getting into trouble. We are of course so excited and proud but worried at the same time. He is not a low energy kid and has a very curious nature which adds up to trouble in the very near future.
Here is an updated video of his progress:

Crawling: Another Step Closer
Today Jaxon moved one step closer to crawling. One very big step. He is now able to get on all fours from his belly. I think it is only a few more weeks until my little man is crawling everywhere. Yikes! We have found that the best motivation (i.e the thing he will crawl for no matter what) is the iPhone. Specifically the iPhone with the Whoopee Cushion Application in effect. Hence the farting sound in the videos over and over.
Here is a video of his progress toward crawiling:

7 Months Old!
Wow! He is 7 months old now as of Wednesday. It just keeps flying by so quickly. Before I know it we will be at his one year birthday party already. They told me they grow up fast but this seems lightening pace. He is looking more and more like a little boy and less like a little tiny baby. And he looks so much like Drew it just melts my heart.
Here are some recent pictures of him as a 7 month old:

TEETH!!!
Jaxon has been getting his first pair (yes, that is two) of teeth. They are on the bottom, middle part of his gums. He has had some pain but mostly they are just a new thing to explore with his tongue. After a couple of nights of getting up once or twice crying this week, last night he went back to sleeping through for 8-9 hours so the worst may be behind us...UNTIL the top two come in.
I have tried over and over to get a picture of his new teeth but my little man won't let me near his mouth to get a snapshot. We will have to wait until they are visible in a smile picture I guess. I will keep trying though.
AND so far no biting of mommy. Phew! I was worried about teeth and breastfeeding him. I can't even tell the difference. I can tell when he is gnawing on my finger though. Ouch!

Jaxon Attempts Crawling...
...but ends up plowing the bed with his face. Either way it is time to baby proof the house soon. It won't be long now until he gets moving for real. I can't believe how fast this has gone and how much he has grown. My little baby is turning into a little boy so quickly. Note the frustration in his voice from not being able to actually do it like he wants.

My First Attempt at Homemade Baby Food for Jaxon
Tonight I decided to get started making food for Jaxon. Up until this point I had been feeding him the Happy Babies Organic Frozen baby food. A good second place but I wanted to do what I had always intended which was make his food. So I got out the Beaba Babycook and some yams and I went to work.
You may wonder why I want to do this when there is so many pre-made varieties of baby food out on the market. To sum up my very lengthy research on this topic my main reasons are:
1. It is cheaper. For 30 minutes a week I can make him a whole week's worth of dinners for the cost of 2-3 pieces of fruits and veggies.
2. I know what he is eating. I know that it is organic and wholesome. No pesticides or other chemicals in it. No additives like starch or water to save costs. No preservatives to lengthen shelf life. No added colors to make it attractive.
3. It has a better or more realistic taste and texture. It will make his transition to real food that much easier because he will be used to it. He is eating real food just blended up.
4. I feel like I am doing something positive for him. I am putting my time, energy, and love into his meals. He will see me in the kitchen making his food and will understand that foods come from fresh sources not from jars or boxes.
I will be following multiple sources for solid food introduction. I waited until he was 6 months as recommended. We started with veggies first and then introduced a fruit. He has had peas, carrots, squash, and apples. Oh and he has had banana in his teething mesh feeder. Tonight he will try yams. They say to start veggies first so they don't prefer sweet tasting stuff and reject the veggies. The funny thing is that Jaxon likes the veggies more. In particular he likes peas and squash the most. He is also eating oatmeal, actually oatmeal mixed with apples. Later this week we will introduce avocado.
I am really enjoying this phase. It is so fun to get to feed him now.

Another Favorite Video: Hungry Jaxon
Jaxon went through a phase around Christmas and New Year's where he would attack me when he was hungry. He knew where the food was and he went for it. It was hilarious. His great grandma loved this when she was in town from Arkansas so we took a video of it one day for her. Here it is. Enjoy the show. Oh and excuse my appearance...I was in my pajamas ready for bed.
One of My Favorite Videos Ever of Jaxon
We just got a new MacBook so I can now finally upload and share all of our videos that we have taken with our video camera. While I was uploading them I viewed some of them and came across this video of Drew and Jaxon on Drew's birthday. It shows Jaxon's adorable laugh and makes your heart melt to see them together this way.
I just love it!
